This tutorial shows you how to make a crushed velvet background tile (or crushed velvet for anything else you may have a use for). Even though this tutorial is written in, and for PSP7, it should be easy for intermediate-experienced users to adapt this technique for PSP8.
Note: This tutorial may be downloaded or printed out for personal use only. It must not, under any circumstances, be taken from this site in its entirety or in parts and passed around Yahoo or MSN Groups, re-posted on other websites or passed on to other individuals. 1. Create a new image 400 x 400 with a transparent background. Left-click on the arrowhead on the foreground color box on the color palette (below, left), then left-click on the pattern icon on the fly-out (middle, below). Your foreground color should now change to a pattern from the pattern list. It will bring up the last pattern you used, which probably isn't the one we need to change it to, so left click right on top of the current pattern to bring up the patterns. Click on the small arrow next to the current pattern and scroll down until you find Clay (the green, bumpy pattern) and select it. Your foreground pattern should now look like this (far right, below):
|
2. Click on the paintbucket, and fill the image with the clay pattern. Your image should now look like what you see here (image has been reduced in size for ease of page loading): |

3. Now go to Colors>Greyscale. You should now have an image which looks like what you see at left. |
4. Create a new layer, and choose Overlay from the Blend Mode List (see below, left). Click OK. While still on the new layer, go to Colors/Increase Color Depth/16 million colors. Go back to the color palette, and this time left-click over the arrowhead next to the foreground pattern. Choose the paintbrush icon from the flyout to change back to a solid color foreground fill. When the pattern changes back to solid color, click on the foreground color to open up the color palette. When the color palette pops up, choose the darkest purple color from the palette as the foreground color (#400040) (see below right).
