Getting to Know the Effects Browser in PSP8 - Page 2

4.  Scroll down through the browser window and see what the Magnifying Glass tool does. Hmmmmm...quite impressive eh? I can see instant buttons and images of all shapes and sizes. (See what I meant above about how it can provide a little inspiration?) But it's kind of annoying having to scroll to see everything at once....when I browse I like to do it in comfort ;-) Click on the Windows maximiser in the top-right hand corner of the browser window (see right). Ahh...much better huh? (Note: to restore again, click on the same Windows button)

Ok, but why are those buttons such as 'Apply' and 'Modify' greyed out? Well, the browser is still waiting for us to make our choice. I've decided to go with the 'Red Gold' effect that's going to give me a small, elegant button that will be perfect for a web set I'm making (see below). Click on the thumbnail preview of the effect to select it, and then click on 'Apply'.

I can see all kinds of buttons, and maybe even a television set in there? ;-)

5.  All you need to do now is to apply some text on that sucker, and you'll have an instant web button; great huh?! How quick and easy was that??

The Effects Browser is very versatile. It'll even allow you to go into the actual tool itself and modify the individual settings (click on 'Modify'). The other options (such as Delete, Rename etc.) are pretty self-explanatory.

6.  OK, now for some real fun. Why not have a good play with the Browser and see what else it can do? Try out the Balls and Bubbles filter for some great effects - it generates all kinds of interesting things, from planets to eyeballs!

Just a couple of more things. Of course, you can always apply any of these filters separately (for instance, by going to Effects>Artistic Effects>Magnifying Lens, etc.) however, it's not going to give you as many ideas, or will be half as much fun ;-). Also, as soon as you open up the Effects Browser, it will automatically go through its paces and render previews from the most recent effect you've used. You'll need a little patience for this. Just wait for it to do its thing, and when it's finished, then click on the effect you wish to use. (You can try clicking on 'Abort' - however this doesn't seem to make it stop immediately - at least for me, anyway).

Finally, for the ultimate in effects previews, click on the 'Presets' folder in the left-panel and you'll see over 300 effects being applied. Wow - what a ride :) Have fun with the Effects Browser.
