Here is a very quick tutorial to show how to use PSP7 (and older) preset shapes with PSP8. Even though I specify importing preset shapes from Version 7, this method should work for any previous version of Paint Shop Pro.
Note: This tutorial may be downloaded or printed out for personal use only. It must not, under any circumstances, be taken from this site in its entirety or in parts and passed around Yahoo or MSN Groups, re-posted on other websites or passed on to other individuals. Placing a link on your Group's site or your own site is fine, and passing links around is also fine. But links ONLY please, and remember to acknowledge that they are external links, otherwise many of your visitors will assume they are still on your site. There are logos available on my resources page if you wish to use one. Thank you for your co-operation.
As always, if you have any questions about this tut, or any comments or suggestions in general your feedback is always welcome. Just click on the link above to contact me.
This tutorial is literally as easy as 1, 2, 3! (Well, I'm afraid I lied......there's also fourth step involved ;-). To import our preset shapes, all we need to do is to tell PSP8 where the old V7 shapes are on your hard drive. So, first of all, go to File>Preferences>File Locations and then follow the numbers below....couldn't get much easier than that huh?
1. Scroll down to where it says "Preset Shapes" and select.
2. Hit the "Add" button.
3. Click on the "Browse" button to go to where you keep your V7 (or 6, or whatever) preset shapes. i.e. you may have a folder similar to mine, which is found at C:\Program Files>Jasc Software Inc>Paint Shop Pro 7>Shapes. Select the appropriate folder.
4. Click "OK" and voila! If you check your PSP8 preset list, you'll find your V7 preset shapes are now added to the V8 ones. Oh, and as an added bonus, this method also works for using other V7 resources with V8, such as tubes, masks, picture frames and so on (to get more of an idea of what else you can use, just check out the File Types list, shown below left). All you need to do is to point PSP8 towards your PSP7 favourites, and away ya go!
