NEWSFLASH: ALL OF THE TUTORIALS AT GRAPHIC ALLUSIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON CD-ROM!

If you'd rather have the convenience of working with these tutorials in your own time and at your own pace, well now you can. Every single tutorial on this website has been adapted for inclusion on CD-rom. You now not only have the opportunity to have your own permanent copy of these tutorials, but there's also a few surprise goodies I've included as well (for instance, the CD includes 9 new tutorials not available online and a large number of royalty-free tubes). For more information, you can check it out right here.

Velvet Look Button or Banner for PSP7 and PSP8, using Eye Candy and Blade Pro.

This tutorial shows you how to make an ornamental-looking velvet button or banner. It's written in PSP7, however with one small change it can be easily adapted for PSP8. Note: You will need the Eye Candy 3.1 (you can get that right here - it's not a trial, it's the real deal, and all for free) and Blade Pro filters for this tutorial (I'm sure Super Blade Pro users can easily adapt it) and it is also assumed that you know how to use them. You'll also need the Button Button font, which you can download from right here (font passed on with author's permission).

Note: This tutorial may be downloaded or printed out for personal use only. It must not, under any circumstances, be taken from this site in its entirety or in parts and passed around Yahoo or MSN Groups, re-posted on other websites or passed on to other individuals. Placing a link on your Group's site or your own site is fine, and passing links around is also fine. But links ONLY please, and remember to acknowledge that they are external links, otherwise many of your visitors will assume they are still on your site. There are logos available on my resources page if you wish to use one. Thank you for your co-operation.

As always, if you have any questions about this tut, or any comments or suggestions in general your feedback is always welcome. Just click on the link above to contact me.

1.   Open up V7 or V8, and create a 200 x 100 image with a transparent background. Change both the foreground and background fills to white. (Shown in V7, below....V8 users, if you're very new to the program and are still not sure how to do this, check out my instructions on how to do this right here.)

Run your mouse over the foreground fill until you see the eyedropper. Right-click, then choose white (see above, middle). Repeat this step for the background fill. You should now have both background and foreground fills showing white (see above, far right)

2.   Create a new layer, by either going to Layers>New raster layer, or just click on the new layer icon on the layers pallette (see right).

3.   Making sure you're on the new layer, select the text tool. Choose the 'Button Button' font, with these settings: Create as - Floating, Font size - 72. Key the number 7 from the keyboard into the text-entry box and leave selected. (see left).

4.   Open up Blade Pro, and choose the 'Gold, Basic' preset (see below, left). Hit OK. Once you've done that, go to Selections>Modify>Contract=7 (see below, middle). **Now fill your selection with the colour of your choice, I went with red (below, right). Again, leave selected.

**Special Note for PSP8 users: Before you fill your selection, create a new layer first (do not deselect), and fill the selection there. Stay on this layer for the rest of the tut.
