How to Create a Simple 3D Welcome Banner in PSP8 - Page 3

9.  To change the border we must select it first. Click on the magic wand tool and click anywhere over the white border to select it.

Note: if it's not already showing on the toolbox, you'll find it under the Selection Tool on the drop-down menu:

10.  Make sure your mouse is directly over the white border as you select it, as you may select wrong parts of the image if it's not directly over that part. Once it's selected go back to the fill tool, select it and right-click over the border (this may be a little fiddly, as the border is pretty narrow, so make sure the paintbucket is placed directly on top of the white). Click to fill. You should now have a border filled with the same metallic gradient we used for the text fill. Leave selected.

Note: When using the fill tool (the paintbucket) right-clicking will always fill your image with the current background color on the materials palette, while left-clicking will fill the image with the foreground color.

11.  With the selection still running, go to Selections>Invert. What this does is to reverse the selection - by inverting it (duh ;-). OK, now to go Effects>3D Effects>Outer Bevel. (Make sure the Outer Bevel is set to the default settings - do this by clicking on the curved arrow icon (see right):

12.  Ok, now just click on OK to apply it. The outer bevel gives our border a nice, 3D-look which is always a great look for borders, text, etc, anything you like to make it stand out and leap right up at you from the page. Go to Selections>Select None to finish off. Voila! You have now officially finished, and this is what you should now have, ta daaaaaaaaa:
